Rurouni Kenshin

Rurouni Kenshin unfolds in the early Meiji era, ten peaceful years after the final years of the Bakumatsu and the peak of the Japanese Revolution. In that violent age, a legendary assassin known as Hitokiri Battousai was feared throughout the country as a merciless killer unmatched in skill, then mysteriously disappeared. Few know that Battousai abandoned his bloodstained life in an effort to repent for his sins and now wanders as Kenshin Himura, a swordsman with a cheerful attitude, a strong will, and a vow never to kill again. When Kenshin arrives in Tokyo, he finds Kaoru Kamiya's kendo dojo under threat from an impostor claiming to be Battousai. After he helps her, Kaoru invites him to stay, and the former assassin temporarily ceases his travels to protect the weak at her side. From that meeting, the franchise follows Kenshin as he strives to save those in need of saving while enemies from both past and present begin to emerge. Around the Kamiya dojo, he builds ties with allies such as Sanosuke Sagara, Yahiko Myojin, and Megumi Takani, even as war veterans still shudder at the name Battousai and old grudges refuse to die with the Bakumatsu. Each new conflict tests whether Kenshin can uphold the ideals he chose in place of killing, even when the world keeps forcing him to confront the man he used to be.
