THE YELLOW MONKEY

THE YELLOW MONKEY is a Japanese rock band formed in 1988 and often styled in full capitals. The group consists of Kazuya Yoshii, Hideaki Kikuchi, Yoichi Hirose, and Eiji Kikuchi. After early lineup changes, this four-member formation first performed together on December 28, 1989. Their music draws on rock, glam, and glam rock. The band made its major-label debut with the single "Romantist Taste" on May 21, 1992 through Nippon Columbia. A month later, they released their first album, "THE NIGHT SNAILS AND PLASTIC BOOGIE". In the 1990s, THE YELLOW MONKEY became widely popular as one of the major Japanese rock bands of the period. Their songs include "Jam" and "Tactics", the latter used as the ending theme for Rurouni Kenshin. The band was originally active until 2001, officially disbanded in 2004, and reunited in 2016. In 2025, they released a music video for their opening song for Nyaight of the Living Cat.
