Kalafina

Kalafina was a Japanese vocal group formed in 2007 by composer Yuki Kajiura. The project blended pop, orchestral, classical, and electronic influences into a dramatic sound centered on layered female vocals, precise phrasing, elegant harmonies, lush production, and cinematic arrangements. The group first gained attention through music tied to the Kara no Kyōkai (The Garden of Sinners) film series, which established a close creative connection with Yuki Kajiura’s broader body of anime music. Active from 2007 to 2019, Kalafina became closely associated with anime openings, endings, and insert songs marked by atmosphere and emotional intensity. Its work included notable contributions to Fate/Zero, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Black Butler. Across the group’s catalog, many of its recordings carried a choral, almost sacred quality.
