to the beginning

"to the beginning" is a 2012 single by Kalafina and the opening theme for ufotable's Fate/Zero (フェイト/ゼロ). Yuki Kajiura wrote, composed, and arranged the song, continuing the close association between Kalafina and the anime projects linked to her music.

The track is a dramatic J-Pop piece shaped by layered vocal lines, a firm rhythmic pulse, and orchestral color. Its verses hold a tight, tense momentum before the chorus opens outward, and Kalafina's harmonies give the performance a dense, ceremonial weight rather than a straightforward pop feel.

That musical approach fits Fate/Zero's atmosphere of escalating conflict and fatal resolve, echoing a story built around rival Masters and Servants in the Fourth Holy Grail War. "to the beginning" was released as a single in 2012, later appeared on Kalafina's album Consolation, and reached the Oricon weekly chart.
