angela

angela is a Japanese pop-rock duo formed in 1993 by vocalist atsuko and composer-guitarist KATSU, both from Okayama Prefecture. The pair made its first major-label debut in 1999 with the single "memories." In 2000, they returned to independent activity, adopted the lowercase styling angela, and spent about three years giving frequent street performances in Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, and Shibuya. After being noticed by a King Records producer, they made a second major debut on May 21, 2003 with "明日へのbrilliant road." Later that year, they won the Animation Kobe Radio Kansai Theme Song Award and released their first album, "ソラノコエ". Signed to King Records, angela built its career around anime and game music, combining J-pop, pop-rock, and electronic elements. The duo became closely associated with theme songs for series including RahXephon, Stellvia of the Universe, Fafner in the Azure, and Knights of Sidonia. For "Sidonia no Kishi," they performed both "Sidonia (シドニア)" and "Kishi Koushinkyoku (騎士行進曲)." In 2023, angela received official Guinness World Records recognition for songs related to "蒼穹のファフナー." In 2025, the duo released the opening song for My Awkward Senpai.
