ClariS

ClariS is a singing duo made up of two high school girls who gained popularity on the video-sharing site Nico Nico Douga as “アリス☆クララ” (Alice☆Clara) in 2009 and 2010. They changed their name to ClariS for their major debut in 2010; the name is derived from Latin, meaning “sunny, clean and bright.” Because they wanted to focus on their studies while still in high school, they keep their identities secret and are only shown as illustrations. According to their official Twitter, they both began high school in April 2012. In artwork, Clara is associated with pink items and a crescent moon motif and is drawn with slightly wavy hair and no bangs, while Alice is associated with blue items and a sun motif and is drawn with straight hair and bangs. Alice left the duo after the release of PARTY TIME in June 2014. Brand New ClariS, aka Shinsei ClariS (新生ClariS), was introduced in LisAni! Vol. 19 (November 2014) with the song “Clear Sky,” with Karen joining as the new member; the group performed the Tsukimonogatari ending theme “border.” Karen left in 2024, and two new members, Elly and Anna, joined at LisAni Live 2025 on January 25, 2025, making ClariS a three-member group.
