Honzuki no Gekokujou

Ascendance of a Bookworm follows Urano Motosu, a woman whose greatest passion is books. She reads everything she can get her hands on and comes so close to becoming a librarian that she can almost taste it, only to die in an accident before her dream is realized. In her final moments, she wishes for one simple thing in her next life: more books. That wish is answered when she wakes up as Myne, a frail five-year-old girl in a medieval world where books are rare luxuries. Myne quickly learns that her new life has almost nothing to read, and that every book must be written and copied by hand. Without a printing press, even the few volumes that exist are expensive enough that only nobles can afford them. Refusing to accept a life without stories, Myne throws herself into the impossible task of changing her world. If there are no books around, she will make them herself, and every setback only strengthens her determination. What begins as a child’s stubborn wish becomes a larger struggle against scarcity, tradition, and the limits of her own body, all in service of one dream: bringing books back into everyday life.
