Yousei Teikoku is a Japanese four-member musical unit formed in 1997 and associated with TEAM FAIRITHM. Built around a striking gothic identity, the group blends electro, EBM, darkwave, neoclassical, ethereal and ambient textures with gothic rock and metal, creating a sound that is both theatrical and atmospheric.
The group has released several independent albums and four major-label albums through Lantis: Gothic Lolita Propaganda, metanoia, Gothic Lolita Doctrine and Gothic Lolita Agitator. These releases helped define the band’s visual and musical concept, with “gothic” and “empire” recurring as key ideas in their artistic world.
The members are Yousei Yui, who handles vocals, chorus and lyric writing; Tachibana Takaha, who contributes keyboards, guitar, composition, arrangement and lyric writing and has also worked with Kukui; Nanami on bass guitar; and Relu on drums. Before the release of Baptize, the group consisted only of Yui and Tachibana, with Nanami and Relu added later.
The name Yousei Teikoku literally means “Fairy Empire.” In the group’s own concept, their music aims to revive that Fairy Empire between the human world and the spiritual realm known as Spiritual, with the purpose of making humans remember the pure heart inside them that believes in fairies, forgotten before we knew it.
