Biography

SID is a Japanese rock band formed in 2003, led by vocalist Mao with Shinji on guitar, Aki on bass, and Yuya on drums. Blending melodic rock, pop-rock, and a visual kei sensibility, the group built a distinct identity around emotional intensity, polished arrangements, and hooks that are easy to remember without losing their edge. The band became especially familiar to anime audiences through theme songs such as "Monokuro no Kiss" for Black Butler and "Uso" for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Those openings helped introduce SID to a wider international audience and remain among the band’s most recognizable contributions to anime music. Across their career, SID have developed a catalog that highlights both the heavier side of Japanese rock and a more lyrical, melodic approach. Their songs often move between dramatic ballads and driving guitar-based tracks, giving their work a range that appeals to listeners looking for intensity as well as accessibility. That balance has made SID a lasting name in J-rock and anison. Since forming in 2003, the quartet has continued to stand out for a sound that connects rock fans with anime viewers, and for a style that turns their anime tie-ins into a natural extension of their broader musical identity.
