Sayonara Ponytail

Sayonara Ponytail is a Japanese j-pop band formed in 2011, known for blending music with illustration, fictional personas, and a deliberately playful public image. The project first emerged through MySpace, where it was presented less like a conventional band and more like a stylized world built around characters and visual storytelling. That concept remains central to the group’s identity and is a major part of why it stands out in Japanese pop culture. Originally guided by the mononymous leader Yuritan, referred to as “God,” the project later came under the direction of Chiitan. Over time, the lineup expanded into a large collective that has included みぃな, なっちゃん, あゆみん, 324P, ふっくん, I say Y, クロネコ, マウマウ, and メグ. The group’s work has involved vocal performance as well as lyrics, composition, arrangement, mixing, saxophone, and publicity, with the talking black cat Kuroneko serving as chief publicity officer. Sayonara Ponytail has also been associated with Epic Records Japan, reinforcing its position as a distinctive Japanese music project rather than a standard band profile.
