savage genius (サヴィッジ・ジーニアス) is a Japanese j-pop band formed in 2002 and signed to Victor Entertainment. The group emerged from Kobe's live music scene and was built around Aa, who handled vocals and lyrics, and Takumi, who worked as composer, arranger, and producer. That division of roles gave savage genius a clear identity from the start, with one member shaping the vocal and lyrical side while the other developed the musical framework.
The duo made its debut through the 2001 AXIA Artist Audition, a milestone that led to a contract with Warner Music Japan. Under that label, savage genius released two singles, marking the first stage of its recording career and establishing a clearer profile within the Japanese music industry. On November 30, 2007, it was announced that Takumi had retired from the group, closing an important chapter in the band's history. Even after that change, savage genius remained associated with its Kobe origins, its audition debut, its Warner Music Japan releases, and the creative partnership that defined its early work.
