About the song
"Aizome" by Mamiko Noto and savage genius is the ending theme for the 2005 TV anime Hell Girl (Jigoku Shoujo / 地獄少女), produced by Studio Deen. Lantis released the song as a single on November 2, 2005, with Mamiko Noto as the vocalist. Takumi composed and arranged the title track, and Aki Hata wrote the lyrics.
The song is a restrained J-pop piece that moves at a slow, measured pace instead of pushing toward a dramatic climax. Noto’s vocal stays soft at the center, while the chorus opens the melody just enough to deepen the melancholy without breaking the song’s hush. The result is intimate, nocturnal, and reflective.
That mood suits Hell Girl’s stories of revenge, moral cost, and quiet dread. Rather than intensifying the horror, "Aizome" leaves each episode on an elegiac note that lingers after the ending. The single also included "Hollow Bead" and off-vocal versions, and savage genius later included "Aizome" on the album "Omoi o Kanadete."
