Biography

RADWIMPS is a Japanese rock band formed in 2001. The band began live activity in 2002, debuted independently in 2003, and made its major-label debut through Toshiba EMI in 2005. Its music mixes alternative rock, pop rock, and indie rock with emotionally direct songwriting. Their songs often pair memorable hooks with reflective lyrics, moving from intimate, piano-led passages to larger guitar-driven climaxes with an emphasis on melody, intensity, and narrative detail. Through albums and live performances, RADWIMPS built a reputation in Japan for a broad and experimental approach. The band later reached a much wider international audience through its work for Makoto Shinkai’s films Your Name., Weathering with You, and Suzume. In anime-related credits, that includes "Yume Tourou (夢灯籠)", "Nandemonaiya (なんでもないや)", and "Daijoubu (Movie Edit) (大丈夫; We'll be Alright)" for "Kimi no Na wa." and "Kanata Haluka (カナタハルカ)" for "Suzume".
