MUCC is a Japanese rock band that formed in Ibaraki in 1997 and has become one of the scene’s most recognizable names. The group’s core lineup centers on 逹瑯 (Tatsurou Iwakami) on vocals, ミヤ (Masaaki Yaguchi) on guitar, and YUKKE (Yusuke Fukuno) on bass, while SATOち (Satochi Takayasu) served as the drummer until 2021. The band originally had another bassist, Hiro, who was replaced by YUKKE in 1999.
The name MUCC comes from a character in the children’s TV program “Ponkickies,” and it also references the Japanese word “mukku” (六九), meaning “six-nine.” That connection helped turn June 9th into “MUCC day” among fans, reinforcing the band’s distinct identity and long-running popularity.
Musically, MUCC is known for a dynamic sound that blends various rock influences rather than staying in a single style. That flexibility has helped the band build a broad following and maintain a strong presence over time, with songs that stand out for their energy and atmosphere.
