MUCC is a Japanese rock band formed in Ibaraki on May 4, 1997. Known for a sound that draws from rock, metal, and nu metal, the group has built a career around heavy, atmospheric songs that can shift between aggressive and melodic textures. Its core lineup centers on 逹瑯 (Tatsurou Iwakami) on vocals, ミヤ (Masaaki Yaguchi) on guitar, and YUKKE (Yusuke Fukuno) on bass, with SATOち (Satochi Takayasu) on drums until 2021. The band originally featured Hiro on bass before YUKKE joined in 1999. MUCC is also associated with Danger Crue Records.
The name MUCC comes from a character in the children’s TV program Ponkickies, and it also references the Japanese word mukku (六九), meaning six-nine. That connection helped turn June 9 into MUCC day among fans and became part of the band’s identity. The group has also connected with anime through its opening theme for Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, which expanded its reach among anime and anison listeners while reinforcing its place in Japanese alternative rock.
