Biography

Go Shiina, born Masaru Shiina on May 16, 1974, is a Japanese composer known for his work in video games and anime. He was raised in a family that ran an Electone school, studied the instrument in childhood, and played in a band as a student. He joined Namco in 1997. Wider recognition came with the score for Tales of Legendia in 2005, his first RPG soundtrack, which incorporated performances by the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. He has since written music for the Tales, Mr. Driller, God Eater, Tekken, Ace Combat, and THE IDOLM@STER franchises. In anime, Shiina worked on the 2011 film Sakura no Ondo. He later became a frequent contributor to productions by ufotable, often using a film-scoring approach synchronized to the picture. His work in this area includes "Kouhai Chi (荒廃地)" for "God Eater" and "Kamado Tanjirou no Uta (竈門炭治郎のうた)" for "Kimetsu no Yaiba". He left Bandai Namco Studios on September 29, 2017 and has since worked as a freelance composer.
