Biography
FictionJunction is a Japanese vocal project created by composer Yuki Kajiura and associated with Victor Entertainment, blending j-pop with the atmospheric, vocal-led sound that has made Kajiura one of anime music's most recognizable composers. Built around Kajiura at the keyboard or piano and a rotating cast of female vocalists known as Utahime, the project is one of her signature outlets for anime and film-related music.
The current Utahime associated with FictionJunction include KAORI, who also has solo works; KEIKO; YURIKO KAIDA, who also releases music as KAiiDA; JOELLE; shuri, who has performed only in 'fairy game' from Princess Principal; and LINO LEIA and rito, both of whom won audition contests to perform on FictionJunction's new album. Other Utahime who have appeared outside the current FictionJunction lineup include ASUKA, who performed only in 'Everlasting Song' and is now Aira Yuuki; YUUKA, who has solo work as Yuuka Nanri; WAKANA; and LiSA, who performed only in 'from the edge'. KEIKO and WAKANA were also part of the defunct Kalafina with Hikaru, while KAORI and JOELLE are also part of Sound_Horizon. The project's wider anison reach is also reflected in its connection to SAO's 10th anniversary theme song 'Fanfare of the Blue Sky', with ReoNa, Eir Aoi and ASCA named in the current bio.
