Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion unfolds in a world still scarred by the Second Impact, fifteen years after the catastrophe reshaped civilization and left Tokyo-3 on the front line of a new apocalyptic crisis. One by one, monstrous beings known as Angels begin attacking the city, and humanity’s conventional weapons and military tactics prove useless against them. With survival at stake, the secret organization NERV, led by the cold and calculating Gendou Ikari, deploys the giant humanoid Evangelions and their protective Absolute Terror Fields to keep the Angels at bay. At the heart of the franchise is Shinji Ikari, Gendou’s 14-year-old son, who returns to Tokyo-3 after years of abandonment and emotional neglect. Still grieving the loss of his mother and terrified of letting anyone close, Shinji is pulled into NERV’s war when he meets 29-year-old Misato Katsuragi, a high-ranking officer whose free-spirited warmth gives him a kind of maternal kindness he has never known. The fragile comfort she offers stands in sharp contrast to the pressure awaiting him inside NERV. When a devastating Angel attack strikes, Gendou reveals why he brought Shinji back: he is the only child who can efficiently pilot Evangelion Unit-01, a machine that synchronizes with his biometrics. Forced into battle, Shinji must endure the brutal psychological strain of piloting an Evangelion while defending Tokyo-3 from the angelic threat, all without fully understanding the dark machinations hidden behind his father’s plans. Across the franchise, that conflict between fragile human bonds, military survival, and buried trauma remains at the center of the story.
