Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru

Katainaka no Ossan, Kensei ni Naru follows Beryl Gardenant, a humble swordsman who has spent 20 years teaching at his father’s sword-fighting dojo in a remote village. Although many of his students have gone on to become remarkable fighters, Beryl still dismisses himself as nothing more than an old man and never sees his own talent for what it is. The people who trained under him, however, know better, and one of the most determined among them is Allucia Citrus, a former disciple who graduated from his instruction more than 10 years ago and now serves as commander of the Royal Order of Knights. Wanting to prove her cherished teacher’s worth, Allucia recommends Beryl to her superiors, and imperial command soon appoints him as a special instructor for the Order. She brings him the news herself, while Beryl remains unaware of the deeper feelings and motives behind her efforts. Pressured by his aging parents, he reluctantly accepts the post and travels to the capital, leaving behind the quiet life he has always known. There he reunites with more of his former students, including Surena Lysandra, now a black-rank adventurer, and Ficelle Harbeller, a prominent member of the Magic Corps. As his reputation begins to spread, the unassuming old man from the countryside starts to draw attention from warriors who can hardly believe the strength hidden behind his modest demeanor.
