When Yui Kusanagi, a third-year high school student, discovers a mysterious sword in the storehouse of her home, she is suddenly drawn into another world and brought before Zeus, king of the gods. Rather than send her back immediately, Zeus gives her a stranger duty: Yui must serve as the sole instructor at the Academy of the gods, a school created to mend the strained relationship between gods and humans by teaching its divine students the meaning of love and human emotion. She has only one year to prove herself, and if she fails, the gods remain trapped in Zeus' realm forever.
The academy's classrooms are filled with young deities who would rather ignore human affairs than study them, including the five men Yui meets first: Apollon Berea, Hades Idoneus, Tsukito Totsuka, Takeru Totsuka, and Balder Hringhorni. As their teacher, she has to lead these reluctant students through lessons about humanity while dealing with divine pride, unfamiliar customs, and the friction between mortal life and immortal power. Other gods around her, including Thor Megingjord, Loki Laevatein, and Dionysus Thyrsos, deepen the tensions and rivalries inside Zeus' unusual classroom. While guiding the gods toward a better understanding of people and helping them grow as individuals, Yui also learns more about their world and the fragile bond that still connects it to her own.
