The World God Only Knows

The World God Only Knows follows Keima Katsuragi, the online “God of Conquest,” whose reputation comes from mastering dating sim games and their perfectly predictable routes. He prefers the safety of the virtual world to the mess of real life, but that detachment collapses when Elsie, a demon assigned to capture runaway spirits, tricks him into helping her. Those spirits have slipped into the human world and hidden inside girls’ hearts, and the only way to force them out is for Keima to win over real girls one by one. What begins as a bizarre contract soon turns into a larger clash between fantasy and reality. Keima leans on the same strategies that made him unbeatable in games, yet every target introduces real emotions, fragile relationships, and problems no script can solve. Elsie’s earnest clumsiness only makes the situation more chaotic, while Keima’s aversion to three-dimensional relationships is tested again and again. As their uneasy partnership continues, each conquest pushes Keima further from the world he understands and closer to the people standing in front of him. The more he relies on calculation, the more he is forced to confront the limits of his own rules—and the fact that a heart cannot be conquered like a game.
