Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi opens with Aoi Tsubaki, a young woman who has spent her life seeing ayakashi, the spirits of the Hidden Realm. Abandoned by her mother as a child, she was taken in by her grandfather, Shirou Tsubaki, another person who shared that gift and taught her how to live alongside the ayakashi without fear. When Shirou suddenly dies, Aoi keeps moving forward on her own, continuing college and relying on the one skill that has always made her feel safe: cooking. Rather than let the human-eating spirits around her decide her fate, she feeds them, hoping that a good meal will keep them calm and keep humans out of danger. Everything changes after she gives lunch to a mysterious ayakashi and is pulled into the Hidden Realm, where she discovers that he is Oodanna, an ogre-god known as the “Master Innkeeper.” There, Aoi learns that she has been used as collateral for her grandfather’s debt of one hundred million yen, and that Oodanna expects her to repay it by marrying him. Aoi refuses and chooses a different path: she will settle the debt herself by opening an eatery at Oodanna’s inn. From that point on, Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi follows Aoi as she brings her cooking to the Hidden Realm and slowly changes the lives of the ayakashi around her. Through meals, daily work, and stubborn compassion, she earns trust in a place where humans are rarely welcome, building a future on her own terms while learning how much her food can heal, calm, and connect.
