Hajime no Ippo follows Ippo Makunouchi, a shy teenager who spends his days helping his mother run the family fishing boat rental business while enduring constant bullying and exhaustion from the hard work. One day, after a violent after-school incident, he is rescued by up-and-coming boxer Mamoru Takamura and brought to the Kamogawa Boxing Gym to recover. There, Takamura, along with Masaru Aoki and Tatsuya Kimura, is surprised to discover that Ippo's quiet life has given him a naturally powerful punch and a remarkably tough body.
After a brief period of training under Takamura, Ippo proves his potential in a practice match against the gifted Ichirou Miyata, beginning a rivalry that will shape his future in the ring. He also earns the guidance of Genji Kamogawa, the gym owner and former boxer who becomes his coach. As Ippo begins his official boxing career, Hajime no Ippo traces his growth through grueling training, hard-fought victories, painful losses, and the many opponents who test his resolve. Built on determination, discipline, and an unyielding fighting spirit, the franchise follows Ippo's drive to rise through the boxing world and discover what it means to become truly strong.
