Free!

Free! follows Haruka Nanase, a boy whose strongest connection is to water, and the childhood bond he shared with Rin Matsuoka, Nagisa Hazuki, and Makoto Tachibana. In elementary school, the four won a relay race together, but the victory did not keep them together; years of distance and unresolved rivalry left each of them on a different path. When Haruka, Nagisa, and Makoto meet again as high school students, they revive the Iwatobi High School Swim Club and look for a fourth member so they can enter an upcoming tournament. They recruit Rei Ryuugazaki, a former track star who is new to swimming, and the club slowly becomes a place where discipline, trust, and competition push all of them to grow. At its core, Free! is a franchise about the pull of the pool: Haruka’s instinctive love of swimming, Rin’s need to prove himself, and the way the Iwatobi swimmers turn rivalry into momentum. Across its stories, the series keeps returning to friendship, ambition, and the moments that define who they become in and out of the water.
