Clannad follows Tomoya Okazaki, a delinquent who sees little point in school and drifts through his days with his friend Youhei Sunohara, convinced he will never amount to anything. That routine changes when he meets Nagisa Furukawa, a shy girl who motivates herself by calling out the things she likes, including Anpan!, a popular Japanese food. At first Tomoya brushes off the encounter, but Nagisa keeps appearing in his life and soon draws him into her goal of reviving the school drama club. She was held back a year because of a severe illness, and she decides to pursue that dream with Tomoya's reluctant help and the support of four other girls.
As Tomoya spends more time with Nagisa and the others, he learns more about their troubles, regrets, and quiet hopes. What begins as a small favor becomes the center of a wider story about friendship, emotional support, and the way ordinary days can change a person. Across the Clannad franchise, those bonds remain the heart of the narrative, balancing humor and melancholy as Tomoya slowly discovers that life is richer and more fragile than he once believed.
