TOOBOE

TOOBOE is the solo stage name of Ryou Yamasaki, a Japanese singer-songwriter, composer, and Vocaloid producer. In the Vocaloid scene, he works as John. He began posting original songs to Nico Nico Douga and YouTube in April 2019, building an audience in internet music through compact songwriting, sharp melodies, tense arrangements, and a sound that blends J-pop with alternative pop, rock, and electronic textures. In September 2020, he launched the TOOBOE project. Since then, he has continued as a self-produced artist, handling lyrics, composition, arrangement, singing, illustration, and video production for his own work. His music is often marked by a dark, emotionally direct style. His writing balances intimacy and unease, while his production gives as much weight to atmosphere as to the main hook. He made his major-label debut in April 2022 with the first single "Shinzou" on MASTERSIX FOUNDATION. TOOBOE reached a wider audience with "Jouzai (錠剤)," the ending theme for Chainsaw Man, which connected his online-rooted catalog with a larger anime audience. His anime work has also included "GUN POWDER," the opening theme for Yuusha no Kuzu, and "Anata wa Kaibutsu (あなたはかいぶつ)," the ending theme for Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu.
