Stance Punks is a Japanese punk rock band formed in 1999 in Tokyo. Emerging from the vibrant live music scene in Shimokitazawa, the group became known for their raw, high-energy performances that captured the spirit of underground punk. Their music, characterized by aggressive guitar riffs and emotionally charged vocal delivery, has earned them comparisons to legendary acts like The Blue Hearts. Their work gained significant international recognition through contributions to film and anime soundtracks. The song "Mayonaka Shounen Totsugekidan" was featured in the cult classic film Battle Royale II, while their track "No Boy No Cry" became widely recognized as an opening theme for the popular anime Naruto. Furthermore, their song "I Wanna Be" served as an ending theme for the series Soul Eater, solidifying their presence in the global anime community. Throughout their career, the band has maintained a consistent commitment to the punk ethos, releasing multiple albums and EPs that explore themes of youth, rebellion, and personal struggle. By balancing mainstream exposure through media tie-ins with a steadfast dedication to their independent roots, Stance Punks remains a respected name in the Japanese rock landscape, continuing to influence new generations of punk artists.
