Savage Garden were an Australian pop duo formed in 1994 by Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones. Their origins lay in Logan City, Queensland, in 1993, when Hayes and Jones first worked together before leaving Red Edge to continue as a duo. Hayes was the vocalist, and Jones handled guitar, keyboards, and other instrumentation.
They debuted in 1996 on Roadshow Music with "I WANT YOU". The song became a hit in Australia and later served as the ending theme of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Savage Garden subsequently signed with Columbia Records.
They followed with the singles "To the Moon and Back", "Truly Madly Deeply", "The Animal Song" and "I Knew I Loved You". The duo released two studio albums, Savage Garden and Affirmation. Both reached number one in Australia and peaked in the top ten in the United Kingdom and the United States. Their debut period brought a record ten ARIA Music Awards in 1997 for the album and its singles.
After a world tour in 1998, Savage Garden released Affirmation in 1999. They announced their split in October 2001 and disbanded in 2002.
