Biography
RUANN is the stage name of Ruan Ooyama (大山 琉杏), a Japanese singer-songwriter born on July 21, 2003. She began learning guitar at the age of 11, and her first live performance took place in New York, an early experience that helped shape her international profile and later interest for listeners searching for RUANN and her anime-related songs.
She first drew attention in 2013 on Kanjani no Shiwake 8, where she covered Lady Gaga's "Telephone" and stood out for her vocal range and stage presence. In 2015, she performed "TETOTE" for One Piece Kabuki Theme, adding an early anime-related credit to her career. Her visibility grew in 2018 after Taka of ONE OK ROCK praised her and invited her to perform at the band's live show. That same year, she sang "I AM STANDING," the ending theme for 3-gatsu wa Lion 2nd Season, and "There's No Ending," used as the theme for Koukyoushihen Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution 2: Anemone. She made her major debut with Toys Factory in 2018 and went on hiatus one year later.
In 2019, RUANN released the digital single "BEEP BEEP" in Japan and Korea, marking her debut in Korea as a freelance singer-songwriter. Her SNS accounts were deleted in 2020. She later took part in iCONZ on the audition TV show ~Yume no Audition Variety~ Dreamer Z, appearing as Ruan Ooyama, placing third, and then joined the new group Moonchild as RUAN. After Moonchild disbanded at the end of April 2024, she said she would focus on producing music and remains on hiatus due to ill health. She is also able to speak Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese.
