redballoon

redballoon is a Japanese rock group formed in 2000 in Aichi. It began as a six-member band that included a DJ and saxophone, then went through several lineup changes and a period as the 2MC mixture band G-FUNK. The group later became a music unit led by the brothers 村屋克典 and 村屋光二, based in Nagoya. The band made its major-label debut through SME RECORDS on November 22, 2006 with the single "Yuki no Tsubasa." The song was used as an ending theme for Gintama and debuted at No. 9 on the Oricon chart. Its third single, "Giniro no Sora (銀色の空)," was later used as an opening theme for the same series and debuted at No. 10. redballoon was associated with the anime and anison scene. Its sound combined melodic guitar work and strong vocal lines with compact song structures, clear hooks, immediate momentum, and a performance-driven pop-rock approach rather than dense arrangements or heavy production. In 2009 the group launched its own label, MK2 music. redballoon suspended activities after a live performance on March 3, 2012, and its breakup was announced on May 3, 2018.
