Biography

People In The Box (ピープルインザボックス) is a Japanese post-rock band formed in 2003 in Fukuoka under Nippon Crown Co., Ltd. (日本クラウン株式会社). From the beginning, the group has been identified with a guitar-led post-rock sound and a compact trio format that gives its arrangements a focused, direct character. The current members are Hirofumi Hatano (波多野 裕文), who handles vocals and guitar, Kenta Fukui (福井 健太), who plays bass, and Shingo Yamaguchi (山口 大吾), who plays drums. This lineup keeps the band centered on the interplay between voice, bass, and drums, a structure that suits their post-rock foundation. As a Japanese post-rock act, People In The Box has maintained a distinctive identity within the scene through its atmosphere, tension, and instrumental balance. Their music is often associated with a sense of expansiveness rather than a conventional pop framework, which helps define their place among listeners who follow Japanese rock and post-rock. For fans looking into the band’s background, their formation in Fukuoka in 2003 and their affiliation with Nippon Crown Co., Ltd. remain key reference points. Together with the current trio of Hirofumi Hatano, Kenta Fukui, and Shingo Yamaguchi, these details help explain why People In The Box continues to be recognized as a notable Japanese post-rock group.
