OLIVIA Lufkin, professionally known as OLIVIA, is a Japanese American bilingual singer-songwriter. Born to an American father and a Japanese mother, she has long stood out in Japanese pop for blending her background, her voice, and her songwriting into a career that bridges two cultures. Her two younger siblings are Jeffrey Lufkin, a musician she collaborates with regularly, and Caroline Lufkin, an independent musician.
OLIVIA began her solo career after performing in the Japanese girl group D&D, and later developed a profile as a solo artist with a distinctive identity in the Japanese music scene. Her name became especially recognizable through work that connected her directly to anime and character music, helping expand her reach beyond traditional pop audiences.
She gained mainstream success in 2006 after creating songs for the fictional band Trapnest under the alias Olivia Inspi' Reira (Trapnest), with those songs used in the popular anime adaptation of Nana. She was personally asked by mangaka Ai Yazawa to be the singing voice of Reira, a role that became one of the defining moments of her career and a major reason she is remembered by anime fans.
OLIVIA's career is notable not only for her solo work but also for her strong association with Nana and the broader anime music landscape. Alongside her recording career, she has remained connected to music through family ties and collaborations, and she is married to musician Owen Vallis. She had her first son, Atlas, in 2014.
