NIRGILIS

NIRGILIS is a Japanese band formed in 1993 by 佐竹モヨ and 伊藤孝氣. 岩田アッチュ joined in 1998 as a keyboardist and later became the vocalist. 栗原稔 joined in 2000, and 稲寺佑紀 followed in 2001. Associated with Toy's Factory, the group combined pop-rock songwriting with electronic elements and concise, bright arrangements, becoming part of Japan’s early-2000s rock and pop crossover scene. In April 2003, NIRGILIS released the album 『テニス』. That September, the band made its major debut with 「真夜中のシュナイダー」. The album 『ニュースタンダード』 followed in 2004. That same year, 佐竹モヨ left and the band moved its base to Tokyo. After transferring to DefSTAR RECORDS in 2005, NIRGILIS released "Sakura" in 2006. Used as the opening theme of Eureka Seven, the song brought the group a wider audience. The album 『BOY』 followed the same year. In 2007, 伊藤孝氣 left, and the remix album 『GIRL』 was released. 『RGB』 followed in 2009. In 2014, NIRGILIS announced the departure of all members. That phase of the band’s career ended after the release of the album 『チュクリ』 and a final live show at 新宿MARZ. The group resumed activity in 2021 with 岩田アッチュ, 佐竹モヨ, and 伊藤孝氣, releasing 「nyan光」 and 「Action!」. Its anime work also includes "SHINY SHINY", used as the ending theme of Deadman Wonderland.
