Biography
Mr. Big is an American hard rock band formed in 1988, known for blending hard rock, acoustic rock, glam metal, pop, and progressive elements. The group’s lineup has included Eric Martin on lead vocals, Billy Sheehan on bass guitar, Pat Torpey on drums and percussion, Paul Gilbert on guitar, and Richie Kotzen on guitar. Signed to Atlantic Records, Mr. Big built a reputation for technical musicianship, melodic hooks, and a polished sound that helped set the band apart in the late 1980s and 1990s.
The band achieved major commercial success in the early 1990s with hit singles such as "To Be with You" and "Just Take My Heart," and with albums including the self-titled debut Mr. Big and the acclaimed Lean into It. Despite lineup changes, including Paul Gilbert’s departure in 1997 and Richie Kotzen’s tenure from 1999 to 2002, the group continued to produce music and tour, releasing albums like Get Over It and What If, as well as the 2021 album What If…. Mr. Big has remained especially popular in Japan, where it developed a dedicated fanbase, and in 2026 Yahoo ranked the band among the greatest supergroups of all time.
