Biography

NHK Tokyo Children's Choir, or NHK Tokyo Children's Chorus, is the children's choir affiliated with the Tokyo Broadcasting Station (JOAK) of the NHK - Japan Broadcasting Corporation radio-TV network. Since 1943, NHK had utilized the Otowa Yurikago Kai, established in 1933, as its children's choir, but since 1951 it has organized its own. Through its broadcasting and recording activities, it has played a significant role in popularizing both Japanese and international children's songs in Japan. The choir has also toured extensively around the world and has received prestigious awards, such as second place in the children's category at the BBC World Amateur Chorus Competition, first place in the children's category at the Centennial of Zoltán Kodály's Birth Competition, and first place in the children's category at the EBU World Chorus Competition, among others.
