Biography

milet is a Japanese singer-songwriter signed to SME Records, known for a smoky lower register and for writing that blends J-pop and balladry with cinematic arrangements. Born in Tokyo, she studied abroad in Canada and took up the flute as a child before being drawn to film scoring, an influence still audible in the emotional range of her arrangements. She has named Beethoven and Rachmaninoff alongside Sigur Rós, Björk and Boom Boom Satellites among the music that shaped her. Active from 2018, she made her major-label debut on 6 March 2019 with the EP inside you, whose title track she wrote and co-composed with Toru of ONE OK ROCK, who also produced it. Released digitally a month earlier, "inside you" reached number two on Billboard Japan's downloads chart and the EP peaked at number sixteen on the Oricon albums chart; the song served as the theme for the Fuji TV drama Queen. Screen work has shaped her catalogue ever since. "The Show" was written for the animated film Birthday Wonderland and "Drown" closed Vinland Saga. With MAN WITH A MISSION she wrote both the opening, "Kizuna no Kiseki", and the ending, "Koi Kogare", for the Swordsmith Village arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. She has also scored both seasons of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, with "Anytime Anywhere" and "The Story of Us". She writes and performs her own lyrics in English and Japanese.
