Biography

Mika Kobayashi (小林 未郁, born May 31, 1978, in Hiroshima, Japan) is a Japanese singer-songwriter, pianist, and vocalist. She began singing in childhood and started learning piano at age five. At 18, she moved from Hiroshima to Tokyo to pursue a music career. Working mainly in a piano-and-vocal style, she writes and composes most of her original songs herself. She made her recorded debut in 2005 with the mini-album 『月夜のかけおち』. It was followed by the single 『毒/群花』 in 2009 and the self-produced album 『糸車』 in 2011. During this period, she also served as vocalist and leader of the band 「鎌倉組」, which released the album 『くるくるまわる』. From 2010 onward, Kobayashi worked extensively as a vocalist on drama, anime, and game soundtracks, often in collaboration with Hiroyuki Sawano. In anime, she performed "YAMANAIAME," the ending theme of Shingeki no Kyojin. She also sang for projects including Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, Blue Exorcist, Kill la Kill, and Seraph of the End. Her game work includes Final Fantasy XI and Xenoblade Chronicles X. Alongside her recording work, she has remained active as a live performer in Japan and abroad. Her appearances include a solo concert in Florence in 2010, as well as later performances in Germany, Italy, and Chinese-speaking regions.
