Biography

meg rock is the performing name of Megumi Hinata (born December 24, 1979), a Japanese J-pop singer-songwriter, lyricist, and composer from Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. She spent her childhood through junior high school in the United States, began playing piano at age four, and has been active since 1998. She debuted under the name Gumi with "Catch You Catch Me," the first opening theme of Cardcaptor Sakura, and went on to work extensively in anime music as a singer, songwriter, and lyric translator. Later, Hinata centered much of her solo work on the self-produced name meg rock. Her anime songs include "Egao no Riyuu (笑顔の理由)" for Asu no Yoichi!, "Good bye, Yesterday" for Romeo x Juliet, and "mein schatz" for Monogatari. Her releases have been associated with Lantis, and in 2011 she founded honeyboot records; its first release was the micro-album "slight fever." Her official website is megrock.com.
