Masayuki Suzuki

Masayuki Suzuki (鈴木雅之; born September 22, 1956, in Ōta, Tokyo) is a Japanese singer with a long career in both group and solo music. In 1975 he formed Chanels with friends, then made his major debut as the group’s lead vocalist with the single "ランナウェイ" on February 25, 1980. He continued with the group after its 1983 name change to Rats & Star. Suzuki made his solo debut as a vocalist in 1986 with "ガラス越しに消えた夏." As a solo artist, he developed a body of work centered on love songs across Japanese pop, soul, boogie, city pop, funk, and classic crooner influences. Often called Japan’s "King of Love Songs," he is also known for his sunglasses, moustache, elegant stage image, and the nickname "Martin." In the early 1990s he released songs including "もう涙はいらない," "恋人," "違う、そうじゃない," and "渋谷で5時." His best albums "MARTINI" (1991) and "MARTINI II" (1995) became million sellers. Later releases include Guilty, the cover album "DISCOVER JAPAN," which received the Excellent Album Award at the 53rd Japan Record Awards, and the 2015 all-time best album "ALL TIME BEST 〜Martini Dictionary〜."
