mabanua

mabanua is the stage name of Manabu Yamaguchi, a Japanese multi-instrumentalist from Tokyo who was born on August 29, 1984, in Saitama Prefecture. He is best known for his work with the funk band Ovall, and his profile is closely tied to Japan’s contemporary groove-oriented music scene, where live instrumentation and precise musicianship are central to his sound. Across his career, mabanua has built a reputation for versatility as an instrumentalist and for contributing to music that connects funk with modern Japanese band culture. His work with Ovall remains the main reference point for many listeners, but his broader activity as a multi-instrumentalist also highlights his ability to move between group work and individual musicianship. That balance has made him a notable name for audiences who follow instrumental players, band projects, and rhythm-driven Japanese music. His identity is especially linked to performance, arrangement, and a detail-focused approach to groove. For listeners searching for a musician with a strong live-oriented sensibility, mabanua is a clear example of how technical skill and ensemble work can shape a distinctive place in contemporary Japanese music. His broader presence as an instrumentalist gives his career appeal beyond a single project while keeping Ovall at the center of his artistic profile.
