Biography

Kotringo is a Japanese pop singer-songwriter and pianist from Osaka, Japan. Her real name is Rieko Miyoshi (三吉理絵子), and she was born on July 17, 1978. Kotringo built her musical identity around piano-led songwriting and a pop style shaped by formal training. After graduating from high school, she entered the Koyo Music School in Kobe. In 1999, she was accepted by the Berklee College of Music, where she majored in Jazz Composition and Performance. That background gave her a strong foundation in writing and arranging, and it remains central to her work as a singer-songwriter and pianist. She is also associated with Avex Trax. The name "kotringo" combines sounds taken from the Japanese words for small birds (kotori) and apple (ringo). It reflects the distinctive character of her artistry, while her education in Kobe and at Berklee highlights a career grounded in craft as well as melody. In recent years, Kotringo has continued to work on screen-related music, including the score for the NHK medical drama "勿忘草の咲く町で" starring Riko Fukumoto.
