Crystal Kay is a Japanese singer from Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Born to an African-American father and Korean mother, she grew up in Japan, where she developed the voice that marked her work in the late 1990s and 2000s Japanese music scene.
Her music blends J-pop, R&B, and soul influences. It combines original pop material with R&B-leaning songs, moving between upbeat tracks and smoother, more emotional ballads.
Among her best-known releases is the 2005 single "Koi ni Ochitara," her best-selling single to date. It was used in the drama Koi ni Ochitara: Boku no Seikou no Himitsu. In anime, she performed "Motherland" for Fullmetal Alchemist and "Konna ni Chikaku de..." for Nodame Cantabile.
