Chieko Baisho is a Japanese actress and singer born in Tokyo on June 29, 1941. Active since the 1960s, she has worked across film, television, stage, and voice acting, and has also been associated with King Records during her music career. She is best known for her long-running role as Sakura in the Otoko wa Tsurai yo film series, one of Japan’s most enduring popular franchises, and for the warmth, clarity, and emotional range that define her performances. Alongside her acting work, Baisho has also performed as a singer, adding another dimension to her profile.
