Howl's Moving Castle follows Sophie Hatter, the dutiful daughter of a hatmaker who expects little from her future and spends her days helping in the family shop. In the small town where she lives, the strange castle that lurches across the hills belongs to Howl, a dazzling wizard known for his magical skill and for his reputation as a womanizer. When Sophie is caught in a frightening encounter and Howl appears to rescue her, the event draws unwanted attention and puts her on the path to the castle itself.
Jealousy soon takes on a darker shape. The vain and vengeful Witch of the Waste, still tied to Howl by a past discord, curses Sophie and transforms her into an old woman. Stripped of the life she knew, Sophie sets out to break the spell and is forced to follow Howl into the castle that moves through the countryside on smoke, steam, and creaking joints.
Inside that living home, Sophie joins Howl's eccentric companions, including a powerful fire demon and a hopping scarecrow, while a raging war tears the kingdom apart. Caught between magic, rumor, and conflict, she must endure the curse and move deeper into Howl's world, even as the castle itself becomes the one place where her fate can begin to change.
