Angela Aki is a Japanese singer-songwriter and pianist known for her piano-driven compositions and cross-cultural background. Born to a Japanese father and an Italian-American mother, she began playing piano at the age of three and spent her childhood in Tokushima and Okayama before moving to Hawaii at 15. She later studied Political Science at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where her interest in music continued to develop.
Angela Aki began shaping her professional music career while still at university. After returning to Japan in 2003, she made her major-label debut with the single "HOME" in 2005. Her first album, also titled HOME, was released in 2006 and became one of her signature works. Her songwriting and vocal style established her as a distinctive presence in Japanese pop music.
She also collaborated with composer Nobuo Uematsu on "Kiss Me Good-Bye," which was used for Final Fantasy XII. Later in 2006, she fulfilled a major career goal with a solo concert at the Budokan, where she performed alone at the piano. Angela Aki has since continued to evolve as an artist, balancing her music with further study and creative projects, including work on a Broadway musical project.
