aiko

aiko, born 柳井愛子 in Osaka on November 22, 1975, is a Japanese singer-songwriter who debuted in 1998. Through Pony Canyon, she built a mainstream career in J-pop and pop rock. At the same time, she maintained a personal, diary-like approach to songwriting, marked by conversational lyrics, intimate storytelling, a bright, expressive vocal style, clear melodies, and band-oriented arrangements. Her work often centers on everyday emotions, romance, and the small details of daily life. As her career developed, radio play and media tie-ins broadened her audience beyond core pop listeners. In anime, she performed "DREAMSHIP" for One Piece, "Koi wo Shita no wa (恋をしたのは)" for Koe no Katachi, and "いつ逢えたら" for Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia. Those songs helped sustain her popularity across generations.
