Witchblade follows Masane Amaha and her daughter Rihoko as they struggle to survive in a near-future Japan where corporate power, government agencies, and weaponized technology compete for control. After a child welfare agency tries to separate Rihoko from her mother, the pair are forced into hiding, but their flight is interrupted when Masane is attacked by an advanced weapon capable of taking human form.
