Witch Hat Atelier follows Coco, the daughter of a humble dressmaker who has always been fascinated by magic and the witches who wield it, even though their craft is carefully concealed from the public. Her curiosity leads her to spy on the skilled witch Qifrey, only to discover that the picture book she treasured was a disguised magic book all along. Excited and unprepared, Coco immediately begins testing the spells she has learned, unaware of how quickly wonder can turn into disaster.
When one of those spells causes a catastrophe in her home, Qifrey rescues her just in time and decides to take her in as a trainee, recognizing that she may be the first lead he has found in his search for the Brimmed Caps, a dangerous group of heretics who experiment with forbidden body-altering magic and spread magical artifacts among commoners. Before Coco and Qifrey can confront them, Coco must learn to control her growing abilities, understand the rules of a hidden magical world, and navigate life alongside Qifrey's other apprentices. The story balances mystery, danger, and wonder as Coco's training pulls her deeper into the secrets behind the atelier and the people who protect it.
