Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari

In The Rising of the Shield Hero, the Four Cardinal Heroes are summoned from modern-day Japan to the kingdom of Melromarc to defend it from the Waves of Catastrophe, disasters that have threatened the land for centuries. Each hero receives a sacred weapon, but Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku chosen as the Shield Hero, quickly finds that the shield gives him little offensive power and even less respect. Mocked by the other heroes and dismissed by Melromarc's people, he is left with almost no allies when the kingdom's support is first distributed. Naofumi's situation worsens when the only companion willing to stand with him, Malty Melromarc, betrays him and falsely accuses him of taking advantage of her. Hated and discriminated against for a crime he did not commit, he is forced to harden himself, rebuild his reputation, and survive on his own. To keep moving forward, he buys a near-death demi-human slave named Raphtalia, who becomes his traveling partner and a vital source of strength. As the Waves draw closer, Naofumi and Raphtalia must fight for Melromarc's future while the Shield Hero learns what it means to trust others again, endure a kingdom's prejudice, and rise beyond the role forced upon him.
