Shinryaku! Ika Musume follows Ika Musume, a squid girl who rises from the ocean after years of human pollution have damaged the sea and vows to punish humanity for its carelessness. Equipped with the classic powers of a squid—hair-tentacles, ink-spitting, and bioluminescence—she heads to shore determined to begin her conquest of the surface world.
Her first target is Lemon Beach House, a seaside restaurant run by the Aizawa sisters, Eiko and Chizuru. Confident that they will be an easy first step toward world domination, Ika Musume immediately declares war on them, only to discover that she is, quite literally, a fish out of water. After she breaks part of the beach house wall while showing off her squiddy superiority, she is forced to work as a waitress to pay for the damage, putting her plans for conquest on hold.
Rather than remaining an invader, Ika Musume slowly settles into her strange new life on land. Wacky and hilarious, Shinryaku! Ika Musume follows her day-to-day life at Lemon Beach House as she makes precious memories, meets new people, and begins to feel unexpectedly at home. With her newfound acquaintances, Ika Musume keeps aiming to take the world by storm, one squid ink spaghetti at a time.
