Shakugan no Shana

Shakugan no Shana takes place in a world where the Crimson Denizens, mysterious beings from a parallel universe, feed on the life energy of humans. Their attacks leave behind Torches, faint remnants of the people they were, and those remnants are eventually erased along with the victims' existence from the minds of the living. To stop this invisible predation, warriors known as Flame Hazes wage a hidden war to preserve the balance between both worlds. When Yuuji Sakai, an ordinary high schooler, is trapped in a crevice of time and attacked by a Denizen, he is rescued by a nameless hunter who looks like a normal young girl, except for her blazing eyes and burning crimson hair. Yuuji later gives her the name Shana. Yuuji soon learns that he has already become a Torch, little more than a scrap of memory waiting to be extinguished, and that his unusual state makes him a special Torch known as a Mystes. Forced to live in that fragile state, he is drawn into the conflict between the Crimson Denizens and the Flame Hazes, where every encounter can erase him from existence. As his bond with Shana deepens, the hidden war begins to overlap with his ordinary life, including his connection to Kazumi Yoshida. Across the franchise, the struggle between Denizens, Flame Hazes, and the people caught between them keeps pushing the line between human life and the unseen war dangerously thin.
